Special education

Special Needs, also known as SEN, means that (temporary) individual support is provided on the teaching material that is not progressing as expected. As a qualified remedial teacher I give extra support to students in the field of language or math. The help is tailored to your child’s specific needs and focuses mainly on the learning process. If necessary, I also look at behavior.

Math - Calculus

Calculate

With good math education, the development of the child is followed and only starts offering the next subject matter when the child is ready for it. That’s where things often go wrong. Children have to continue with the sequence of material in class, whilst they sometimes do not master the previous subject matter.

A didactic study it can determined which parts of the material are still difficult for your child and whether there are gaps in the math from previous years. The investigation is the bases for a plan going foward.

I explain each math part and practice it with your child. This allows extra practice at home.

There are mnemonics for many math items. Your child will receive these “memorabilia” on a “cheat sheet” in addition to the exercises that have been discussed in during our sessions.

Much progress can often be seen after twelve sessions.

Dyscalculia

Not every child with math problems has dyscalculia. To be eligible for a dyscalculia statement in the Neterlands, it is first necessary to receive effective help for 2 x 3 months, with a follow-up examination.

As a Master SEN dyscalculia specialist, I can help your child with this process.

When a child suffers from dyscalculia, he or she has difficulty using fluently and correctly the arithmetic and mathematics knowledge that has been teached.

Characteristics of dyscalculia:

  • Counting on fingers.
  • Difficulty learning numbers.
  • Reversing numbers. (39-93)
  • Difficulty dividing under 10 (9 = 5 and 4).
  • Difficulty automating sums up to 10.
  • Difficulty automating tables.
  • Difficulty with geometry. (km, kg, kl)
  • Difficulty telling the time.
  • Little insight into the number system.

Read

Reading Comprehension

Your child needs reading comprehension when understanding a text that has been read, but also in maths and subjects such as geography, biology and history.

A didactic examination determines which skills your child experience difficulties. Based on the examination a plan can be made.

Thereafter with a reading method we can cover all the areas your child has difficulty with. Think of the following components:

  • Types of text
  • Language skills
  • Vocabulary
  • Technical reading skills
  • Motivation
  • Strategies
  • Technical reading
  • Avoiding interpreting texts’

Progress can often be seen after twelve lessons.

Technical Reading

A didactic examination, among other things, determines at which level a child reads and whether he or she knows all the sounds.

Based on the research, a plan is made and 12 weeks of guidance follow.

Progress can often be seen after twelve lessons. If not, your chaild may have Dyslexia.

Dyslexia

Not every child with reading difficulties has Dyslexia.

To be eligible for a Dyslexia diagnosis, it is first necessary to receive effective help for 2 x 3 months, with a follow-up examination.

As a Master SEN dyslexia specialist, I can help your child with this process.

Dyslexia hinders learning to read fluently and is therefore completely independent of how smart you are. Even a genius like Albert Einstein had dyslexia.

Characteristics of dyslexia:

  • Difficulty hearing the difference between the sounds.
  • Difficulty putting sounds in the right order. Difficulty paying attention to sound information/spoken word.
  • Difficulty remembering word sequences.
  • Difficulty finding correct words.
  • Difficulty with rhyming words.
  • Skipping or replacing words in a sentence, such as castle-palace .·
  • Avoid reading.

Spelling

Spelling

By means of a didactic examination it can be determined which spelling categories your child still has difficulty with. Next a plan can be made which covers all spelling categories that your child struggles with.

I will explain each spelling category and practices it with your child. That will also allow extra practice at home.

There are rules for many spelling categories. Your child will receive these spelling rules on a “cheat sheet” in addition to the exercises that have been discussed during the meetings.

After twelve lessons progress can often be seen.

Verb Spelling / Parse

By menas of a didactic examination it can be determined which verb spelling categories your child still has trouble with. Next a plan can be made which covers all verb spelling categories that your child struggles with.

I will explain and practices with your child for each verb spelling category. That will also allows extra practice at home.

There are rules for verb spelling. Your child will receive these verb spelling rules on a “cheat sheet” in addition to the exercises that have been discussed during the meetings.

Progress can often be seen after twelve lessons.

If your child has trouble with verb spelling, parsing a sentence is often difficult. Parsing is about what is: the finite verb, the subject, an article, a noun or adjective.

What can I do for your child?
In an introduction I would like to tell you about the possibilities.
